Content-heavy solo business
Research didn’t need to be faster. It needed to be smaller.
The client kept putting off research because every session required a full day they couldn’t find. Doing the research faster wouldn’t have helped; the blocker was the size of the activation.
The redesign broke research into forty-five-minute triage-and-stage sessions that could slot between other work. AI handled the synthesis scaffolding and the verification prompts; the person kept the judgment. Research started happening weekly instead of not at all. Total time spent on research actually went up, because it stopped being avoided. Output moved proportionally.
Small studio, two principals
Discovery ended with no work.
Included here because it is honest to do so. After ninety minutes, we agreed the real bottleneck was a hiring decision the founders hadn’t yet made, not a workflow problem. They left with a written summary of what we found and a clear view of what to decide next. The Discovery fee was their only cost, and no further engagement followed.
